On April 14, 2025 I opened up a blank page and started writing here again.
This used to be a pretty substantial blog. Now, I am kind of resetting?
I don’t know what this will be yet, but I have this writing itch that needs to be scratched, a yearning that can’t be sated with social media, so I expect I will find an excuse to put words here sooner than later.
My only real promise about what I’ll post is that (after some initial explanation posts) I’m giving myself a limit of one navel-gazing blogging-about-blogging post per calendar month.
Stay tuned.

Much of the content prior to 2025 was written as part of a different blog called the “Cast Iron Guy” which I detailed as:
…a journal of uncomplicated things, life lived, and a mindset that reflects the philosophical practicality of well-seasoned cast iron frying pan: enduring, simple, down-to-earth & extremely useful.
I wrote regularly from here in the Canadian Prairies about things that interest me, including the artistic inspiration I get outdoors, travel, gear, growing, buying and cooking great food, fire-craft, suburban and nature trails, running, and (of course even occasionally) the clever and many curious ways I found to use my many pieces of cast iron cookware.
comments
I’ll be honest. In twenty-plus years of blogging I’ve never really had much success with commenting.
Either a few random people write “good post” or the place just gets cluttered up with spam and other random gibberish. In fact, I struggle to think of a single instance of a post I’ve written that has generated more than a single interaction of valuable conversation.
These days I tend to think this is probably a good use for social media.
So if you want to respond to something, ping me on Bluesky or wherever I happen to be hanging out. And for the time being, comments here are deactivated.
